Miss Whatcom Addresses Children's Health Issues: Prevention Campaign Increases Awareness of Child Abuse Issue

Crowned 2011 Miss Whatcom, Jordan Donahue (pictured on upper right), age 20, not only won the scholarship pageant, she demonstrated her commitment to community service. Whatcom Community College student, Jordan, chose as her pageant platform the issue of child abuse. “I’ve seen firsthand how helpful services like those offered at Brigid Collins Family Support Center are for families in crisis. Anybody can be affected by the issue of abuse,” she explains.

Jordan began volunteering at Brigid Collins in April 2011 by speaking about child abuse to various groups as part of Child Abuse Prevention Month. In addition, she is working on bringing a Darkness to Light/Stewards of Children child sexual abuse prevention workshop to Whatcom Community College. In November 2011, Jordan will speak at Brigid Collins’ annual Breaking the Cycle Breakfast.
